Counseling Mission

The mission of the Fayette Academy Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. The school counselor is an advocate who provides support to maximize student potential and achievement. In partnership with other educators, parents/guardians, and the community, school counselors facilitate the support system to ensure that all students have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.

College Visit Policy

Whenever possible, please schedule college visits during fall break, spring break, and school holidays. If it is necessary to miss class to visit a college, we ask that parents and students observe our college visit policy. Juniors and seniors are permitted three college visit days per school year. The student will need to obtain written permission from the Head of School, Upper School Counselor, Student Services, and all of his/her teachers before making travel plans. This is accomplished by having a parent email the request to Taylor Smith, who will then fill out the prearranged absence form and give it to the student to obtain the necessary signatures. The student must take the form to each of his/her teachers and gain their approval with a signature. After visiting the college(s), students must provide proof of the visit(s) by submitting documentation to Student Services upon returning to school. A note from the college admissions office or a copy of the college appointment confirmation will serve as proof. For help scheduling a college tour with your institution of choice, click here

College Fair

Fayette Academy hosts an annual College Fair for all upper school students. Representatives from various colleges and universities meet with students to provide vital information on the admissions process for their institution as well as important financial aid information. Each year the College Fair is concluded by a luncheon for the seniors, parents, and admissions counselors. This year’s College Fair will be hosted on September 20, 2017.

College Application and Exploration Week

The goal of College App Week is to build excitement and enthusiasm around the college application process and provide students with financial aid/scholarship information. College App week will be held October 2-5, 2017. On Monday, seniors will meet with TN REDI representative, Dixie Spencer, to learn about the TN Promise Scholarship. On Tuesday, seniors will travel to the University of Tennessee at Martin Somerville Center to tour campus as well as participate in two college courses. Dixie Spencer will return to Fayette Academy on Tuesday night at 6pm to meet with parents about important financial aid information. On Wednesday, Mississippi State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences will speak to Upper School students during chapel. On Thursday, the Upper School counselor will meet with seniors during their English class to discuss scholarships offered specifically to Fayette Academy students as well as provide application material for these scholarships.

Junior Spring Recruiting

In the spring, college admissions counselors from various universities and institutions meet with the rising seniors. Junior recruiting puts a flip on the traditional college fair: admissions counselor tables with students browsing tables. At junior recruiting, students are placed at round tables with five students per group. Representatives host a round table discussion with each table for five minutes before they are required to move on to the next table. Representatives continue to work through the tables until each student group has spoken with every admissions counselor present.

College Signing Day

Fayette Academy is hosting a College Signing Day to celebrate the senior class of 2018 making the important decision to enroll in college and pursue their dreams. On April 26, 2018, our seniors will declare what they want to do with their future and where they will go after high school. We will also award graduation cords to deserving seniors during this event. All senior parents are invited to attend. The purpose of College Signing Day is to build excitement around going to college. The event is a time for the entire school community to celebrate the achievements of our seniors.

College Representatives at the Academy

College representatives are permitted to meet with students on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:45-1:15. Representatives must make an appointment with the Upper School Counselor.
